When you’re promoting your local shows and events in St Louis, you’re aware of the occasional challenges.
Local Seat Filling and Event Promotion in St Louis
If you are a box office manager, marketing professional, director, producer, etc., you know how it can go in the world of entertainment, events, and activities. You’re selling tickets to a top-notch show or event. It could be theater, stand-up comedy, the classics like opera, ballet, and symphony, or a sporting event or musical performance. Or, maybe you have a conference or expo, a class, lecture, or other ticketed event.
But regardless of how amazing the entertainment or activity is, you don’t sell to capacity. Maybe you’re fortunate and have unlimited space and want as big of an audience as possible. You could also have a goal to simply introduce your venue to some new patrons.
Whatever the reason is for wanting new audience members or attendees, the OTL St Louis Seat Filler-Free Ticket Club is standing by to assist.
OTL St Louis is part of the On the List family of small seat filler memberships, aka free tickets clubs, that are located in 15 cities in the U.S., as well as in London.

Get In Touch
"Love working with OTL Seat Fillers! It's a great way to get new patrons that may not have seen your shows before."
From the Director of one of Austin’s top-rated theaters
St Louis Seat Fillers and Free Tickets Club
The original St Louis Seat Filler Club launched in 2015 under a different name and team management. But it has been part of the OTL family since 2018.
The club is one of the newer locations and we’re looking forward to expanding upon our partner list.
It’s Not Like The Oscars
OTL is community seat filling, which is quite different than Award Show seat filling at events like the Academy Awards.
When you, as an event promoter, have some available tickets, and you’d like to see them used, you have a free service standing by, even for last-minute assistance. But, unlike award show seat fillers, OTL St Louis members are treated like every other paying patron. They do receive complimentary tickets (and, no, they don’t talk about free tickets at the venue), but they sit with their guest and don’t move around. They’re there to fill in where you designate, as well as enjoy quality entertainment.
Members stop by your Box Office, Will Call Window, or other designated location to pick up the tickets that you have ready for them based on a reservation list that’s emailed to you a few hours before the show.
How You Can Have a Bigger Audience
When you decide you could benefit from a few more audience members, students, or attendees, send the basics to OTL. You can fill out the form on the partner site, as it’s handy for the club to have complete information for the first go-round. It’s not necessary each time, though, as a quick email with the show dates and ticket counts for each will suffice. Getting a show posted shouldn’t take more than five minutes tops.
You’ll become a partner of OTL and can call or email Mary Lou for ticket allocations or updates. It’s a free service and an easy process.
OTL’s little family and friend team that oversees the 16 clubs is on board because of the win-win aspect. You get a few extra seats filled, and members are entertained and introduced to amazing shows right in their hometown.
Seat Filling Benefits
On the List can post anywhere from four to 50 or more tickets to a performance. OTL members love to see and take advantage of new opportunities are excited when new things pop up in the member area.
Even just a few new patrons on hand adds to the atmosphere, increases concession and merchandise sales, parking revenue, and word of mouth recommendations.
Get Those Seats Filled
To get a few seats filled, go to the event submission form for St Louis and send in the event details, Mary Lou will get right back to you to confirm. Or, you can use the experience submission form for other types of opportunities.
You privately send the show information, as well as the number of comp tickets you’d like to offer to OTL. Then, Mary Lou or another team member will put together a members-only posting with the event description, photos, attire, and other details.
OTL St Louis members make reservations in their private member area. Then a detailed reservation list is compiled and emailed to you or your Box Office. You then distribute the complimentary allotment of tickets at your Box Office (or other designated location) just before the show.
Quick and easy!
Quietly Paper the House
Traditionally, papering the house meant that the area would be flooded with freebies. For example, a minor league baseball team may have a fast-food chain sponsor a game. Every restaurant location would have hundreds of free tickets to distribute to customers. Filling 10,000 seats could take 500,000 tickets in distribution.
With the OTL model of mini-electronic papering, you’re privately offering comp tickets to members. Then a detailed Will Call list with names and ticket numbers is sent to your Box Office. As a condition of membership, anyone who makes a reservation must attend the event. So, there’s an average of a 90% attendance rate, barring any last-minute emergencies or one-off changes.
Shhh…Privacy to Shows
No one knows that you’re filling any seats with On the List St Louis members. You won’t find the names of any theaters, show venues, events, or activities listed on any of OTL’s free ticket websites. As a condition of membership, members can’t discuss the “free ticket” aspect at the venues either. They present their identification just like any other patron picking up tickets.
There’s a strict “privacy to shows” policy, as your primary concern is selling tickets. If the public knew that a few comps were available, it could impact your bottom line, and that’s not the goal of OTL. We’re here to support our partners, not compete.
Event Promotion and Marketing Resources for St Louis Shows and Activities
OTL isn’t just for the biggest shows and venues in town, although members love having the opportunity to attend those as well.
The community seat filling concept started in Las Vegas, but On the List doesn’t closely adhere to the Las Vegas experience. Most cities, even top-ten locations won’t have the never-ending, 52-week a year, repeat events that you’ll find almost around the clock in Sin City. Many shows come and go in a week or even a day.
Instead, OTL posts many individual one-off shows, large and small. Members have been introduced to little theaters that hold less than 50. But they’re also attended bigger concert and broadway tour events, as well as unusual sporting events like professional frisbee competitions. They have participated in classes, book signings, and private preview performances.
As long as it’s a ticketed event or an experience that’s not open to the general public, On the List club members are excited to participate.
How to Promote Local Events in St Louis
Taking advantage of a bigger audience through community seat filling is beneficial. It’s also a great way to promote your shows through a private ad to OTL members and their subsequent word of mouth.
Although members can’t talk about the “free” aspect, they can post or share information about the awesome show that they saw last night.
Additionally, On the List has other free resources for event promoters in St Louis and each of the 16 locations.
Free Local Advertising and Event Promotion Through the St Louis City Guide
OTL also powers the OTL City Guides for Locals, which are independent of the free ticket clubs.
The City Guides include all kinds of resources that all of us can use daily. Discounts, dining tips, and general lifestyle information about living in the St Louis area are consistently being updated. Additionally, there are events calendars powered by Evvnt, including a St Louis version, that you can use to post your shows, giving you more online advertising.
We also encourage organizations to add their information to the local directories. As the City Guides are meant to be bookmarked and used regularly, it’s helpful to have your contact information and details posted throughout the site. Free seat filling and event promotion in St Louis and beyond.
